Today the Green Party of St. Paul unanimously endorsed Elizabeth Dickinson in her race for mayor. Twenty voting members agreed that Dickinson represents the positive values of the Green Party and voted also to support her with the maximum allowable contribution from the party¹s treasury. They were cheered by a number of visitors and newcomers who attended the meeting.
Several speakers pointed to the similarity of mayoral races in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In both cities, they noted, middle-of-the-road male candidates are challenged by Green women on such basic issues as living wages, big boxes, clean energy, and power being withheld from the grassroots.
At the close of the meeting Dickinson left on her first round of door-knocking, which she will continue throughout the campaign. With volunteers and personal energy the Greens hope to counter the lavish campaign funds of other candidates and to build on voter disenchantment with the two major parties.
